Spiritual street scam
A quiet encounter that revealed how easily trust can be engineered

I found this one to be quite elaborate. I was sitting one a bench in the middle of the city enjoying the view. Two guys passed by me and one of them asked for a lighter. I had one so i handed it to him, he smiled, said thanks and struck up a conversation. He asked me what my name was, i mentioned it to him, made it look like he didn't hear it, so i said it louder. After that, he left.
Some minutes later i left the bench and started walking, and then, coming from my side, some east asian guy came up to me and told me that he was part of a religious group. He first tried to tell me about the group but then soon, he started to mention that he feels some spiritual energy in me that he would like to do a reading on. But first, he said he would like to prove to me his powers, and essentially did some hand wavey nonsence ending in him saying he knew my name without me having to tell him. Eventually he said it, and he was correct. Then asked to go further with the reading, but said in order to go further he would like to receive a donation for his religious group.
It was pretty slick the way he did it, instead of me giving him the money, he wrote on a paper 3 options of what people usually give and then asked me to circle what i could give. I told him i only had 20 buck in my pocket and offered it to him. Then he took me to another bench and proceeded to use psychological manipulation tricks on me to make me feel like i was missing something in my life and that i needed to clean my spirit and that it would cost 700 euros for a 2 week cleansing. When i asked what this was for he said it was to buy the materials needed to make it work. These were ordinary household items.
I already knew beforehand but at that point it was clear. 20 buck gone! the crazy part is, i met a friend 2 weeks later, and he told me the same thing happened to him. I think the guy that asked for my lighter is how he found out my name
