Why No Scam

The power of stories

No Scam represents an alternative method to tackling the problem of scamming. Statistics vary, but it is estimated that more than 80% of scammers get away with their crimes. This is because, most times, scam victims give away their money and valuables willingly. In a sense, there was no crime. Additionally, after being manipulated and parted from their hard-earned funds, most scam victims never report the experience. This leaves the door wide open for scammers to operate with impunity both on and offline.

No Scam hopes to change this. We believe that the key to preventing scams lies in unlocking the power of stories. By sharing stories and experiences with scams, No Scam hopes to build the world's premier scam database.

Scams persist and scammers prevail because people remain silent, unaware and unconnected. And, given the sheer volume of scams, from one-time scams to long-term grifts that eventually become long cons, we are all susceptible. When you try to tell your uncle or close relative that the person they are talking to is most likely a scammer, it is hard for them to believe, with their minds captured in the criminal's universe. Moreover, because they do not know how scams operate on a practical level, it's hard for them to see the signs. No Scam aims to change this.

When we hear real stories by real people and similar stories with the same thread and overarching narrative, we can come to learn how scammers truly operate. Scams work the same way most hacking exploits work - a mix of technical and social engineering. And, oftentimes, it is the social engineering factor that tips the scale.

This is why stories matter! It is through stories that we can learn the intricate details of the social engineering that takes place and results in the scammers getting their score.

By collecting, labeling and categorizing all of the world's scams, No Scam will use the power of data to get you the story you need when you need it. After all, it is likely that others have experienced the same or similar. We can learn from each other to better navigate this increasingly treacherous online landscape. Scammers use technological and social engineering to steal from you. We can use the same tools to fight back!

If you or someone you know has experienced a scam, post your story on our “Share your experience” page. Our database is small and growing, and together these stories can have a huge impact. Happy sharing and Happy Learning!
