Hacked Phone Number Scam

How someone used my number to ask my friends for money

Close-up of a person holding two smartphones side by side. One phone shows a message urgently asking for money, while the other displays a follow-up message warning that the request was fraudulent. The background is softly blurred, emphasizing the phones and the contrast between the messages.

This one happened in south africa. I got a new phone and for some time wasn't using my old number. All off a sudden, my ex girlfriend texted me asking if i was okay and that she was gonna send me the money later. I was like huh? I didn't ask for money. she mentioned that she received a text from my other number saying that i needed help and needed her to send some funds. I told her that wasn't me and that everything was okay, the stange part is another friend texted me that same day about the same issue. Apparently the scammers hacked my phone number and send a bulk message to everyone they could asking them to send money at a specified address. I had to resend a bult message saying that was a false alarm and that no one should send any money
