Hacked on IG and email
Sent a link as a friend asking for me to vote for them to be a tv presenter. I clicked the link
I received a direct message on instagram where a friend of mine (who also got hacked) sent me a message saying they're applying to a competition to become a tv presentor and they sent me a link to vote for them. In hindsight this was very clearly a scam link, but I fell for it. I clicked on link and was prompted to a log in page where I could log in via email or instagram. I tried to log in through instagram first and got an error message, which was suspicious, but I didn't think much of it. I then tried logging in with my email and got the same error message. That's how the scammers/hackers got the password to my instagram and email. They managed to hack into both accounts of mine.
Through hacking into my instagram, the hackers sent out the same scam message I got to a few of my friends. I then started receiving whatsapp messages from some of these friends saying they think I got hacked. That's how I found out my instagram got hacked. I tried to log into my instagram, but had to verify my email due to suspicious activity. I logged into my email and realized then that my email was hacked. I managed to recover my email through my recovery email. Subsequently, I went back to my instagram and realized the hackers had gotten back into it and even changed the email associated with it this time, leaving my locked out of my instagram. I requested supported from meta, since my instagram was linked to my facebook. They were cooperative and helped me recover my instagram.
After lots of work I managed to retrieve both my accounts and learned an important lesson the hard way.
